At Herne we are very
proud of the close, productive and professional relationship that exists
between
governors and the school’s leadership
and management team. What do governors do?
The
governing body’s main aim is to help raise standards of achievement
and make sure the school provides a good quality of education for our
pupils. The day-to-day management of the school is the responsibility
of the Head Teacher and staff. Rather than manage, governors are there
to help
shape the school’s future direction and focus. Governors are at
the heart of how Herne operates. It’s important
we get things right. How we do our job affects the interests of pupils,
staff morale and how the school is seen by parents and others in the
Crowborough community.
As governors we are responsible for how the school is performing.
We have to be prepared to both support and challenge our Head
Teacher
by gathering views, asking questions and deciding what’s best
for our pupils. The Critical Friend
The governing body has a good working relationship and regular meetings
with the Head Teacher and other members of the school leadership and
management team. We can therefore monitor how well the school is doing,
and how well policies and plans are being implemented . Our role is
to act as ambassadors of the school with all its stakeholders including:
pupils, staff, parents, and the wider community.
Ensuring Accountability
The governing body gets regular reports from the Head Teacher and has
access to key performance data for all aspects of the schools operation
including: pupil attainment, pupil and parent opinions and financial
management. It provides information to the Local Education Authority
(LEA) and parents by producing:
• regular communication to parents
• a school prospectus
• a post-inspection action plan.
