Introduction
Herne Junior School is a specialist Key Stage 2 school for pupils aged from 7 to 11 years, and has around 280 children on roll, spread across ten classes.

At Herne, we aim to be a listening school at the heart of our local community. We are proud of our strong, caring school community, particularly our relationship between our pupils and the staff team.

Facilities
At Herne we have much to offer our pupils. Our recently completed building work provides pupils with a new library, and changing rooms for PE, as well as a fully networked ICT suite. We have a large playing field, and a separate gardening area, as well as an on-site swimming pool.

We run many after school and lunchtime clubs, and have very successful sporting teams.

The Curriculum
At Herne, we are committed to providing a fully rounded education that meets the needs of children of all abilities. In today's world we feel it is vital for children not just to be equipped with facts and information but also to have the skills necessary to become lifelong learners and to start the process of taking control of their own learning. Programmes like our Creative Curriculum enable children to learn in a participative and interactive fashion, whilst our cutting edge work on Emotional Literacy enables children to develop greater confidence and social awareness by encouraging them to express themselves more clearly, and in doing so forge stronger and more effective relationships with one another.

Communication
The partnership we have with parents is key in helping raise standards and levels of achievement. We actively encourage parents to get to know their child's teacher through a programme of meetings and by inviting parents to collect their children from the playground at the end of each day.

Parents are sent a termly newsletter with details of successes and special events that have happened over the term. Parents also receive termly leaflets with information about the work children will be covering.
